after school

i'm in the library right now. been here for more than an hour and i'm supposed to be getting copies of the journals that i need to read. then i realize that usb's not allowed, haha. thus, i started doing nonsensical stuff such as bloghopping, checking emails and my friend's friendster accounts when i should be reading more about my research! haha...anyway, in a few minutes, i should be going. i'll be visiting my sister in valenzuela since it's my nephew's graduation day. haven't seen them for three months and i miss them. good thing i was able to squeeze it in my busy schedule. but gosh, i need to work on paper and i better do it fast. i want to give my best this time since this is my last term. good luck to me tlaga...

***

To my tartie: HAPPY 26th MONTHSARY! Thanks for the care, love and for accepting all of me the past 26 months. Looking forward to more years with you... one day, i hope to write our love story (hehe, mushy!)

***
hala, i forgot. got an errand. tsk.. byeee

happy monthsari =)

in lieu of our 26th monthsari tomorrow, my tartie sent me this while we're both bogged down with work in the office. love the gesture! so simple yet so sweet. funny how this simple act made my heart melt. 2 years backward, when we were still starting, we used to have elaborate celebrations of our monthsari and give each other gifts. now that we're more mature and, well, getting old, simple acts of love such as this would do... *kilig*

vote earth!

i'm guilty of taking our natural resources for granted. i've wasted so many papers in the past, ignored the recycling programs that were implemented some years ago and littered relentlessly. it was last year when i first heard about EARTH HOUR. the drill was for people to switch off their lights for an hour. i thought it was just another ordinary environmental campaign . it turned out to be a worldwide campaign and had hastened people's awareness on global warming. this year, i learned that the said event will be held on the 28th this month. i first found out about it in a poster that greets everyone who enters the buidling where i work. and so, i marked the calendar. i guess this time, in my own little way, i could do something about global warming and save the earth as well, hehe...and oh by the way, i've also started recycling. i have gathered all the papers that i used in the past and try using them again, the backpage's still clean anyway... i know these are just small things but i also know that they somehow could make a difference.

i hope everyone would mark the same date too!... it's the least that we can do to our beloved mother earth. according to several write-ups, the said event has been transformed into the world's first global election between earth and global warming and we are all given the opportunity to vote for EARTH by using our light switch.

Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

happy anniversary

i suddenly realized that today's my first year as a QA. much has happened in the year that was---laughter, tears, disputes, gratitude and naysaying. the part that i love most is the growth that i experienced not just career wise, but emotionally as well... it's been one heck of a rollercoaster ride but i'm glad that i'm still on solid ground and am still eager to make a difference not just in the company as a whole but in each teacher's life. thank you for all those who had appreciated my comments and my pang-'ookray, ' hehe. for all those who had raised their eyebrows, sorry but i'm just doing my job :p..

looking forward to another fruitful year!

quotation for the day: money makes the world go around.. hehe, thanks to that teacher who made me laugh today :D

happy tawts!

need to change my mindset; my mind's clouded with negative thoughts since i've been bombarded with a lot of issues lately... i need something were i could draw my strength and enthusiasm from... for starters, here's a short but powerful and motivating article for me! thanks to my newfound friend as well, tl monique, whose happy disposition is just so infectious.

Happy Thoughts And Their Power
Posted on March 9th, 2009 by

The power of happy thoughts shouldn’t be underestimated. In an average day it is estimated that we have around 60,000 thoughts.

It is known that happy people think more happy thoughts than unhappy people.

Happy thoughts connect us with the clarity, confidence and courage to act… to know what to do. To travel down our own path rather than the same trail everyone else follows.

Jealous, angry and fearful thoughts take us away from our own path… our own purpose. They strip us of our power and ability to act effectively.

If we think happy thoughts… we create happy perceptions… which lead us to happy events. And so we create a exciting circle (where we become ever happier) as opposed to a vicious circle.

If we think fearful thoughts we become afraid and act defensively. This pushes away other people and other possibilities away from us. And so we become lonelier and more afraid.

The route to a happier life is through happy thoughts. Not just because they make you feel better immediately… but because happier thoughts give you a stronger and more stable foundation to your life. You are in control rather than being bounced around by life.

stop me!

much as i don't want to be a prescriptivist and be very strict about grammar, i couldn't help but feel bad (and laugh sometimes! hehe, bad!) when i hear people utter grammatically-incorrect sentences. i know for a fact that my grammar needs some help but i know as well that my English is intelligible enough,, hehe...here are some of the ungrammaticalities that really gotme in my months as a teacher of English:

1. you didn't forget to order your friend.. (wow friend, binebenta ka pala)

2. So-so is, I think an English, Konglish, English for Korean. (ano ba tlaga, ate?)

3. I'm going to have a pity, all right? (how nice of you)

4....meaning it's not all the time raining, it's not all the time snowing or it's not all the time windy (so anu nga ang weather?)

5. Water is a liquid. it's not a thing. (really?)

6. I'm the girl and I'm going to say, "why did,, why you did not,, why you didn't arrive last night, why didn't arrive last night..." (relaks lang kasi)

7. Can you please complete? (complete your sentence muna before i complete mine )

8. You mean, is the parking lot is available? (is yes, ma'am)

9. You're a scary cat! (nakakatakot ka daw!)

10. I'm out of the office anymore. (then it's your problem anymore!)

11. They charge for delivery charge? (whatevs!)

12. You're gonna have a nosebleed... I'm starting to nosebleed. Blood is coming out of my nose. (OA, ha!)

13. Don’t they did trick or tricking? (ako ba niloloko mo?)

*** post script: got the title from one of the segments of my favorite showbiz news program, "the buzz" some years ago." too bad it's not part of the show anymore. it was one of the highlights of the show for me back then. i would laugh out loud hearing glaring ungrammaticalities uttered even by my favorite actors/ actresses :p

food for the thought

since i do not have ample time and any concrete idea on what to write, just allow me to share this message that i got from our dept. meeting:

"I don’t know what your destiny will be,
but one thing I know:
the ones among you who will be really happy
are those who have sought and found
how to
serve.”

- Albert Schweitzer
*****
so there, i hope everyone of us could have the chance to serve others, in any way, someday. It think it's one good reason for us to say that we were able to make our lives worth living. :)

change

change is really constant. we must brace ourselves for changes everyday.

got a dose of this inevitable reality today---i moved to a new station just like almost everyone. now, i'm very close to the entrance of our office and very upfront! hehe..am happy still coz i now sit with my fellow QA's and we don't have to use messenger anymore so that we could communicate. however, there's a part of me that's nostalgic at the same time. i'd surely miss my ex-team and their team leader who has become a friend to me...

i know that the move that had happened today was not easy for everyone. i'm sure we all are in low spirits especially since this change has been brought about by the present crisis. i just hope everyone could adapt to this soon...

indeed, we cannot control change. however we react to it depends entirely to us. each person has their way of coping anyway---we could be adamant, resistant or flexible to change. i hope everyone's amenable to the last one though; after all, they say that only the dead ones couldn't embrace change. ;p

inspired by a short message

i've been feeling kinda down lately because of the changes here and there, the depressing crisis and loads of homework that i ought to do but had not started yet. this afternoon though, a very short message from one of the teachers inspired me. she thanked me for the evaluation that i gave her this month. according to her, she learned something from me and she now knows what should not be done next time. . . just that. nothing more, nothing less. but even the simplicity of the message made me feel like a million dollars! hehe, coz not everyone has that kind of thinking. more often than not, people would put the blame on their evaluators. sad but true. can't take that against people though; each one has their perspective of things anyway...

so that's just it! i was just so elated that i was able to touch someone's life today and i want to remember this day when i look back years from now how i had lived my life.

go ask yourself :)

got this from a short, inspirational/motivational lecture that my dept head conducted at around 2. it was a two-part lecture: one was about leadership during tough times and the second was about asking yourself the right (and constructive) questions. the seond part really hit me. but since i could not download the vid that he shared with us, le'me just share excerpts of the talk:

The Power of Asking the Right Questions

There is magic in asking the right questions.

Wouldn’t it be great to have the power of knowing how to ask the right questions all the time?
Well, you do have that power. You always have the power…at least it’s always a CHOICE you have.
But what choices are you making.
Do you choose empowering questions or are you beating yourself up with hurtful, demoralizing questions instead?
We are in a constant conversation with ourselves.
Seldom does a day go by that we don’t have ten of thousands of thoughts and questions run through our minds.
Many people get caught up in asking questions like: “Why does this stuff always happen to me?” or when they make a mistake, find themselves chanting: “What’s WRONG with me?”

Asking empowering questions is a great tool to activate the Law of Attraction and the law of ACTION in your life.

Here’s why: There is actually a chemical/electrical response that takes place when you pose a question.

When you ask yourself a question (or someone else asks you a question), your brain responds just like a computer…in fact, it’s more like a search engine, seeking out the answer to the questions and ways of making that answer true for you.
So, when you ask “What’s wrong with me?”, you immediately set yourself up for creating something “wrong” with you because your subconscious mind is now running that internal program through your brain called “Find something wrong” until it in fact does find something wrong with you — to prove you were right…about being wrong! Crazy, isn’t it?

How do you correct your internal question compass to make sure you’re always heading in the right direction with your questions?

1. Start by becoming more aware of the questions you’re already asking yourself.

- Do you find yourself asking questions “Why can’t I…?” or “What’s wrong with…?”
- If you do, try reframing your questions.
- For example, instead of “Why can’t I…?” try using the words “How can I…?”

Try these empowering questions and observe (and act upon) how your mind and the Law of Attraction begin to conspire together to create the answers and opportunities that you really want:
How can I afford it?
What is the best action to take right now?
Who should I be connecting with to move my career forward?
Is there a better option?
How big can this dream REALLY be?
How can I create more revenue for my business?
Who is the best person for this job?
What is my true purpose?
How can I best serve the world?

Asking the right questions has amazing power in your life.

25 random facts

i've started reading different versions of this since last year but it's just now that i had the urge to write about 25 facts that people ought to know about me (hehe, as if i'm a very important and interesting person *wink*) . initially, i didn't want to do this, but since i need to do some sort of introduction for my second blog, i decided to do so anyway .hence, here goes nothing...

1. i don't think i have the knack for writing but i've always loved it. writing has been a part of me since i was in elementary. used to write poems back then. in college, i developed love for news and feature writing and now, i get to enjoy academic writing.. hehe

2. i love singing. hehe. i sing to my heart's content :)

3. i used to love reading books but now i don't have the luxury of time to do so.

4. i luuuuurve eating.. hehe, my regular serving of rice is 1 and a half cups.. yum yum :)

5. i'm not picky when it comes to food. i eat everything that's edible, except balot :p

6. there are habits that i want to break: drinking coffee more than once a day and smoking

7. i can now cook and i'm loving it. i mastered cooking comfort food. i would love to learn cooking gourmet meals in the future.

8. i love watching teleseryes and tagalog movies. some would find this too 'masa' but i don't care! love your own :D

9. i have two older sisters but i'm the tallest and thinnest (and prettiest! ^^).

1o. i used to be an insomniac. but now, i sleep early and for loooong hours! wahaha

11. i used to hate waking up early but now i wake up as early as 3am for work. During weekends, I still wake up early, around 7 or 8, to enjoy the morning sun :)

12. i'm a couch potato but i avoid to be one these days because of the too much schoolwork.

13. i'm a mouse potato as well. hehe, i love spending hours infront of my laptop surfing or blogging.

14. i hate people who laugh at other people's mistakes and people who give unsolicited advice. please, just be mum when you're not asked of your opinion.

15. i'm about to finish my master's degree. this is my last term (hopefully! ^^)

16. i haven't gotten a grade of 4 in any of my subjects because of half -baked outputs and little time to study...if i could only turn back time, i'd give out my best and all

17. i don't like reciting or expressing my ideas, especially in class.. i prefert to listen to other people's idea...

18. at work, however, i get to talk. i share ideas and inputs. it's awesome to be sharing something substantive.

19. i'm in love with linguistics!

20. when i turned one, i could speak in straight sentences and i could articulate words well. i was too 'madaldal' according to my yaya back then. ..

21. when i was younger, i haven't really had the chance to speak in English mainly because we speak our first language language, Bicol, at home. it's just now that i get to talk in the said language and it's amazing how i turned to be a neutral (and good! hehe) speaker of English...i guess my teacher in psycholinguistics was right: once the first language is grounded, it would be easier to learn and acquire any other language.

22. i'm a very sensitive person. hehe, emphasis on 'very' please! sometimes, it causes me pain and feelings that i don't deserve or i'm not supposed to have...

22. i'm a proud nagueña! i sooo love my hometown! had i the time (and money), i'd go home as often as i could.

23. i value friendship so much. i'm guilty of not showing up lately, but i could assure them that they're in my heart and always part of my prayers.

24. i miss my parents so much. believe me, it's hard to live without the guidance of your parents.

25. i'm just a speck in this vast universe but i certainly want to make a big difference :)

death and crisis

i was supposed to be finishing the last 10 items for my second entry entitled "25 random facts about me" but i stopped and decided to make way for this feeling that i've been having since last friday.

that day was like the saddest day for me since the year has started. two things made it really devastating--- first was the death of a rap icon and second was the impact of crisis on the company that i'm working with....

***

DEATH. i was stunned by the message that one of my fellow QA's had sent an hour before our shift ended last friday. she said that FrancisM passed away at 12noon the same day. i couldn't believe it! i immediately hit google to confirm the news. and turned out that it was not a feign news this time. the king of Philippine rap is indeed gone! what a big loss not just in the celebrity world but in the Philippines as a whole. i have always been fascinated by his songs for they were nationalistic in theme and some of them were sang in the native language. plus, he had ventured into business with the passion for the country still in mind. i would love to buy one of their products. not all celebrities have this burning passion for the country. thus, now, i mourn not just because of the loss of a handsome celebrity but of a true kababayan...

***

CRISIS. on the latter part of the previous year, there were news about the global crisis. statistics, according to the news, has disclosed over 40,000 Filipinos let go by their employers. i feel sorry for these people that i always include them in my prayers. i always pray as well that the countries greatly affected by the crisis would soon recover. personally,i'm still feel happy and blessed for i still have not experienced this and neither of my loved ones and closed friends have. i remained hopeful because i still have a stable job and i'm still able to eat three square meals a day.then came friday last week when the part of me that was hopeful and happy turned otherwise. we learned that more than half of the teachers in the AM shift were forced to work as part-timers due to the crisis. although i'm quite relieved to know that my partner, shey, and some of my other friends were not included, i still feel sorry for the single moms who were part of it and also for some teachers who have been dear to me. that day was really saddening. i was suppressing tears while i was talking to some colleagues and to my department head. it's good to know though, that just like me, there are people willing to sacrifice something for the company. our department has decided to not accept the raise that we're scheduled to have for this month. i'm really proud of our team.

***
i just hope that despite these present realities, everyone would remain to have an optimistic attitude and a thinking that crisis would soon be over and that something great is in store after all these perplexities. these indeed saddens me but i just keep in mind what my life coach has taught me: crisis may bring out the best or the worst in you. . . i chose and will always choose the former :)

a welcome to moi :)

after my futile attempts in starting a new blog in some other web sites, i realized that blogspot is still the best. it's use-friendly. very easy to manipulate. and so i decided to just create a second account here... my previous blog was full of my angsts and frustrations and thus, i opted for a fresh start this year.. i was supposed to make one at the onset of the year but then my busy schedule didn't allow me to do so.. now, i tried to make time for it and i'm glad that here i am starting anew
